Hockey Equipment Checklist

The hockey equipment your child will need on the ice is as follows:

  • Helmet with full cage
  • Mouth Guard (Dentists will do a custom one or you can buy one at Sports Stores)
  • Neck Guard (You can also buy a shirt with a built-in neck guard)
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Elbow Pads
  • Gloves
  • Pants
  • Jill (Pelvic Protector)
  • Shin Pads
  • Hockey Skates
  • Hockey Socks (Novice-Midget have game socks supplied)
  • Jersey for practice

For goalies, the player will need a glove and blocker (often Novice will wear regular gloves), goalie pads and goalie skates for the older girls. Tykes has goalie pads for the players to try out. Each Novice team will have the glove & blocker and goalie pads to rotate amongst the players. Atom and Peewee goalies will have glove & blocker and goalie pads supplied for the season. They will have to buy their own goalie skates. Bantam and Midget buy their own hockey equipment.

Other accessories

  • Hockey Bag
  • Hockey Stick (For Tykes usually a straight wood stick is best)
  • Stick Tape
  • Clear Sock Tape
  • Water Bottle
  • Skate Guards
  • Hair Wrap (or something to tie back their hair)

Make sure the player’s equipment fits and is comfortable. If they can try it on before buying, you can make sure it fits OK. If you don’t want to buy new, contact Triple Play at 807-466-2785. They have lots of used equipment each year. Canadian Tire also sells a basic kit that has almost everything you need at a reasonable cost.
